Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the fraternity cost?
The best way to figure out our dues is to start with the basic $400 that active members pay per quarter. On top of that, because we do impose fines for not attending mandatory events and have other additional costs like event shirts the dues change each quarter. But we do offer a small discount for paying ahead of time at the beginning of the year. But your son should have more information on the subject (including payment plan options).
What are my son's/my money used for?
As a fraternity we have serveral costs that make up our yearly budget. The largest portion of our expenditures is a mandated insurance policy that all fraternities must have on its members to include things like minimal injuries at a fraternity sanctioned event and liability claims; but for more information on our F.I.P.G. insurance policy check out the links section of the site. Other then this: socials, brotherhood events, housing, philanthropy, and even scholarship complete the list of costs. Almost everything we do has some expense whether brotherhood BBQs or philanthropy entrance fees.
What are the benefits of joining?
To begin describing all the benefits of joining the Greek system could take up a whole page on this website in itself; and we encourage you to type in "benefits of Greek life" in a search engine and find several resources there. But the best benefits come in the form of less tangiable things: friendships of a lifetime, leadership experience, career connections, educational support, and many more.
What kind of time commitment is pledging? Will my son be able to join other organizations on campus as well?
As described in the FAQs for "Rush" the time commitment for Delta Chi is the greatest before initiation and/or if your son takes on leadership positions. It can be like taking a two unit course in "fraternity life", we encourage you to review with your son the committment and dicuss the balance between academics and extracurriculars while they're in the house just so your not unaware. But if your son is a student at Poly the likelihood is that he can balance the two well. We have members that join multiple other organizations on top of school, the fraternity, and a job even. (We have members in PolyReps, WOW Orientation Programming, Associated Students Inc., engineering societies, and honor societies.)
What about academics?
While in the house members must mantain a high enough GPA to remain off house "social probation". We are in college to graduate and succeed and the fraternity should benefit us in that effort. The house has weekly study hours in the library and a set up mentoring program for brothers in similar majors.
What is the fraternity's policy on hazing?
Because we take the same stance as our headquarters their website states: "Delta Chi is strongly opposed to any practices that are or may appear to be hazing. The experience of Delta Chi associate members should be one of education, challenges, personal development, and excitement. Hazing in any form contradicts these goals and is a direct violation of both the Ten Basic Expectations of a Delta Chi and the oath that every member takes during his initiation."
How can I get involved?
There is no set up Parent's Council for our chapter right now, but if you have experience in the area (like PTA, sport's Mom/Dad stuff, youth involvement) or just feel like you can help please have you son contact the chapter Vice President and let him know so we can facilitate setting up a group during Parent's Weekend. But secondly, we as Delta Chi have the opportunity to initate father's as honorary members if they know a bunch of the brothers and feel connected to the house. The members do have to vote on this, so again let your son know of your interest and he can bring it up to the chapter as a whole, or your son may even ask you. (Note: You must not have been a member of any other college social fraternity in your time at school.)
How can I donate?
The chapter is always looking for ways to finance unique projects to improve housing or other special projects that we would love to have you support. To do this monetarily click on the "Donate" tab in the navigation bar above. But if you want to help in another way, we have benefitted from the help of parent owned companies in the past for things like recruitment printing (signs, fliers, shirts), intramural sports uniforms, even housing maintenance projects if your knowledgeable in that way again have your son let a member of the Executive Board know and we will be sure to contact you.
If you have any other questions not answered here please feel free to contact our current President Matt Freie at president@cpdeltachi.com for a fast response.
